Transition Group: College and Beyond
Ongoing weekly group led by Dr. Goldstein offers young adults the opportunity to reflect on the past and plan for the future, navigating the transition to adulthood
through the dynamic process of group counseling.
These issues and more will be addressed as we explore relationships, reflect on parents, transitions, life goals and family issues. This group offers participants an adjunct resource to their individual treatment, or as an experience unto itself.

New Directions in Child and Adolescent Therapy: A Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Approach to Treating Trauma and Attachment Dynamics in our
Younger Patients
September 11, 2011
This UCLA workshop revisits the development of identity, sense of self, and the ability to form and sustain relationships as Drs. Bonnie Goldstein and Pat Ogden address the effects of trauma and attachment dynamics on the developing brain and body and elucidate the significance of the "somatic narrative" in child and adolescent treatment. The ongoing process of body-based, implicit, nonverbal behavior, and the complex interplay between psychological experience, procedural learning, sensory processing, and affect regulation are illuminated through an exploration of movement patterns, gestures, stance, postures, prosody, and other non-verbal cues. Brief experiential exercises and videotaped excerpts of sessions with children and adolescent clients illustrate techniques of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy that develop Somatic awareness and initiate new ways to build self-regulation and relationship skills, foster resilience, and create new competencies, all conducted in an atmosphere of curiosity, play, and discovery.

Making Meaning at Mid-Life
When one door closes, another one opens. As children are growing up and moving on to college, parents stand at a new threshold. We have freed up time and energy. We ask ourselves, "How do I want to challenge myself to live a life of meaning and purpose in which I can make a difference?" "How should I challenge my energies?" "What concerns do I have now about my health, my aging parents, my newly independent children?" Dr. Goldstein leads this monthly group.

Additionally, poetry, mindfulness techniques, and body awareness through somatic experiencing will be fostered.

Raising Responsible Children
Through the group process we will identify and articulate our own values and sense of meaning as it relates to our children. This weekly group will examine how we can raise children with positive values, compassion, empathy, and the ability to communicate about life issues. Understanding of life cycle milestones help us to provide a warm family environment in which to raise our children. Parents will have the opportunity to explore ongoing issues concerning parent-child interaction, develop tools to enhance communication, and elucidate the values that shape the lives of our children. This monthly group is facilitated by Dr. Goldstein.
