Group therapy accesses participants' yearning for connection through interactive discussion as experienced in a safe milieu. Through the deepening experience of the group process, participants will develop self-understanding and mindful awareness as they discuss a range of topics, including self-esteem, peer pressure, identity, short- and long-term goals, motivation and direction, and relationships with family and friends. In the dynamic context of group interactions, participants are motivated to identify and articulate their own personal search for meaning in their lives: where they find it and how they actualize it. Group explores the "somatic narrative" in our younger clients illuminated through an exploration of movement patterns, gestures, stance, postures, prosody, and other non-verbal cues. Participants also will have the opportunity to explore ongoing issues concerning school, work, and parent–child interactions and address topics of accountability, honesty, and responsibility. In addition, developing tools for communication with friends and family members and exploring strategies for the coming years will help participants begin the process of shaping their lives themselves. Groups meet weekly in West Los Angeles.
